St. Augustine Man Lists Beached Boat for $1 on Craigslist
A St. Augustine boat captain whose vessel drifted ashore in New Smyrna Beach lists it on Craigslist for just one dollar.
NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. A St. Augustine boat captain has taken an unusual approach to dealing with an unexpected predicament, listing his stranded vessel for sale on Craigslist for just one dollar.
Capt. Allan Askar set sail from St. Augustine on December 22, aiming for the Dominican Republic. However, his voyage took an unexpected turn when he encountered rough seas. After a challenging stretch, Askar decided to drop anchor and take a nap to regain his energy.
When he awoke, he found his boat had drifted ashore onto New Smyrna Beach. Now, faced with a 30-day deadline to remove the vessel and looming fines, Askar is scrambling for a solution.
According to Askar, the cost of removing the boat from the beach is estimated between 20,000 and 25,000 dollars. In an effort to avoid the steep expense, he has listed the boat for sale for just one dollar.
"If I can find the right buyer," Askar stated, "I'm even willing to contribute some money to assist with the removal process."
