NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. — A St. Augustine boat captain has taken an unusual approach to dealing with an unexpected predicament—listing his stranded vessel for sale on Craigslist for just $1.

Capt. Allan Askar set sail from St. Augustine on December 22, aiming for the Dominican Republic. However, his voyage took an unexpected turn when he encountered rough seas. After a challenging stretch, Askar decided to drop anchor and take a nap to regain his energy.

When he awoke, he found his boat had drifted ashore onto New Smyrna Beach. Now, faced with a 30-day deadline to remove the vessel and looming fines, Askar is scrambling for a solution.

According to Askar, the cost of removing the boat from the beach is estimated between $20,000 and $25,000. In an effort to avoid the steep expense, he has listed the boat for sale for just $1.

“If I can find the right buyer,” Askar stated, “I’m even willing to contribute some money to assist with the removal process.”
